Silverdale School Sheffield School Uniform Ordering Online from the Stitch Factory

By admin - Last updated: Friday, July 13, 2012

In April there was an open afternoon to come and buy school uniforms at Silverdale school, but it was a bit chaotic so we decided to buy them online instead.

It was straightforward to order the compulsory items online from the stitch factory website, though had to pay a significant extra amount for home delivery.

The uniform  arrived a few weeks later.

Silverdale School Sheffield Unfinished Water Sculpture or Children’s Play Area?

By admin - Last updated: Friday, July 13, 2012

Silverdale School in Sheffield has a strange looking steel sculpture outside its main entrance. The question I and I presume many people ask is what is it ?

It appears to resemble rocks in a stream bed, sort of flowing down the steps, but in my opinion it is missing something crucial and that something is water!, Water flowing over and pooling around and through the objects would make it a far more intricate and understandable sculpture. Perhaps a decade or so from now when I graduate, I will be allowed to come back and finish it?

In the meantime it makes a great play area for younger children.

Sami, quit embarrassing me!

Key Stage 2 Sats Test Results 2012 for Sheffield, Athelstan School

By admin - Last updated: Friday, July 13, 2012

The target for Key Stage 2 Year 7 (Age 11) is to attain Level 4 Sats results. Sats results of 3 are weaker and of 5 are of a higher achievement.

Primary Schools tend to pass on Sats results to secondary schools, so in my case that will be Silverdale School, Sheffield.

My sats results are 5,4,4,5. My Teacher assessed results are – 5C, 4a,4a,5b, 5c, so my average score is 5C, and highest 5B. The national average is 4C, so I am 3 notches above the national average. My best subject was Maths and worst Writing. The full results for how Athelstan school as a whole did and Sheffield will be out by the end of July

My Dad rewarded me with a trip for me and my brother to London and Legoland and some money for my bank account.

More on my legoland adventures later.

How to Grow a Mango Tree in Silverdale, Sheffield by Adnaan Walayat

By admin - Last updated: Friday, July 13, 2012

A few weeks my sister Anika showed how to get mango seeds out of the hard husks and germinate the seeds by loosely wrapping then in a paper tissue, soaking them in water and then placing them into a plastic wallet for a about three weeks.

Now three weeks later and whilst Anika is away on Holiday, Me and Sami will get the germinated seeds and plant the new baby mango trees in pots.

First step is to see how many if any of the 6 seeds have actually germinated.

Looks like Sami hit a home run, that looks like a great baby Mango tree!

It’s like opening Christmas presents as I find a good healthy baby mango tree as well

Great 3 of the 6 mango seeds have germinated and are ready to plant in pots.

First step is to mix compost with water retention crystals and plant food so as to give the 3 baby mango trees a good start

Next Me and Sami take it in turns to plant each mango tree in the small pots

And there are the three baby mango trees on their first day in plant pots in Silverdale, Sheffield.

A couple of days later and the Mango trees have straightened up as lap up the sun.

I might have to repot them by the time I start Silverdale School in September.

And 5 days after planting Anika is back and happy to see half of her mango seeds have successfully germinated into baby mango trees

Stay tuned for some nice juicy mangoes!

Cutting Down Trees Planted Near Property Boundaries – Silverdale, Sheffield

By admin - Last updated: Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Had a pleasant early after move in surprise recently to find that the neighbour had cut virtually all of their very close to the boundary bordering trees down.

One at the front

And about 5 or 6 along the garden bordering area.

Thats a lot of wood still left to shift!

Wow those tree stumps are a lot thicker and closer than I thought they were! Something to monitor for any consquences of.

Its great news that most of the trees have gone which means plenty more bright sunlight this summer, however the space now needs a new fence erected for privacy.

Now thats much better!

That leaves just one giant willow tree right at the back corner that perhaps will also be chopped down at a later date?

A leesson for all, THINK before you plant trees into the ground becuase they GROW! and some grow HUGE!

Planting and Growing a Peach Fruit Tree in a Pot at Silverdale Sheffield Part1

By admin - Last updated: Monday, April 16, 2012

You need three main things to plant a fruit tree in a pot.

1. A pot

2. A fruit tree

3. Compost / Soil

BUYING A POT

A decent sized pot is needed to allow a fruit tree room to grow for several years. My Dad bought a big pot from a local garden centre.

BUYING A PEACH FRUIT TREE

There are a number of places to get a fruit tree from such as the local garden centres such as B&Q or Homebase, but they are not going to have a lot of variety, mainly apple trees and some pear and cherry trees, but no peach trees.

So whilst B&Q did not have what we were looking for we bought an apple tree and then also ordered a peach tree online but had to wait a long time for it to arrive (28 days), the peach fruit tree cost £35 including posting, which is very high when you compare against £15-£20 in B&Q and Homebase or just £6 in places like pound stretcher and Lidl, but the advantage is that you get exactly what you want i.e. rootstock for growth size and the trees tend to be a lot healthier so I guess you get what you pay for. If you pay £6 then you have limited choice and the plant won’t be as healthy as one that costs you £35. We chose to mix and match by getting several trees to plant in the ground and pots.

So next I waited for my peach tree to be delivered.

It came well packaged in a very big box, much taller than me.

My Dad was busy working so we could not plant it straight away so I watched some TV with my fruit tree for a while.

We needed to go back to garden centre to get some quality soil – John Ings 3- The bag was very heavy.

Fruit Tree Buying Tips

1. If your not too bothered about the type and size then you get fruit trees cheap from places like Lidl, Aldi and pound stretchers at less than £7 each.

2. If you are planting it in a pot, make sure it is a really big pot to give the fruit tree time to grow.

3. Soil – The best soil for fruit trees is John Ings 3.

4. Order by Early march at the latest so that you can have it planted before summer.

Tomorrow (Part 2), I will work on planting my peach fruit tree at Silverdale Close.

The peach tree should be okay to stay in it’s box until tommorrow.

Weight Lifting Strength Training for Silverdale School Sheffield Start

By admin - Last updated: Friday, April 13, 2012

My dad says I need to get stronger before I start Silverdale secondary school in September this year. He says he can more than double my strength by training me on his Powertec leverage multi-system gym.

It is very hard training but worth it if my strength more than doubles in just 5 months.

"I’ll be back" with an update on how things go over the next few months.

Walayat family moves to Silverdale Close, Sheffield.

The walayat family making their move in trip - The the car is fully loaded for the move from Darnall to Silverdale Close

Arrive at Silverdale, I am suprised by my first look at the new house, it is much larger than I thought it would be.
